Henry De Bromhead won Killarney’s two big Flat races of the year today as Chutzpal (6/1) gave the top jumps trainer an across-the-card treble, with success in the Kellihers Toyota Kingdom Gold Cup Handicap.
De Bromhead’s Killarney haul began with Thalara rsquo;s win in the Listed Irish EBF Vincent O´Brien Ruby Stakes and having also sent out Quantum Quest to score over hurdles at Kilbeggan, completed the treble with Chutzpal .
Thalara had made virtually all for his Listed success and in the high-profile €45,000 Kingdom Gold Cup, Chutzpal scored similarly with an all-the-way battling success under jockey Wayne Hassett, who had also landed the 2024 renewal on the UK-trained Prydwen .
Regarding the Pimlico Racing Ireland-owned winner, De Bromhead’s assistant Robbie Power reported “Chutzpal was lucky to get in from that rating (70) and has won a good pot today.
“Things didn’t work out for him in a Racing League race at Wolverhampton the last day but Wayne kept it simple today, and the horse had won here over course-and-distance last year. I thought, two or three times, he was beaten in the home straight but to be fair, he showed great guts and determination. He stuck his head down and wasn’t for passing.
“He has won over hurdles too, so he can do both.”
Trainer De Bromhead’s other big Flat winners of 2025 include another Listed success with Town And Country at Sandown and a first Royal Ascot success with Ascending in June.
