Irascible returns to form

Grade 1-placed Irascible (4/1) returned to form with a second hurdle win today, landing Cork's Hurdle for trainer Henry De Bromhead, jockey Rachael Blackmore and owners Gigginstown House Stud.

The son of Jukebox Jury chased home Appreciate It in a top-level Leopardstown hurdle during Christmas 2020, having previously won a Clonmel maiden, and returned to action following a year layoff in February.

Today's race was run in heavy rain and despite being off the bridle for the final mile, Irascible maintained his gallop to grind out a hard-fought neck win over Cash Back.

Blackmore later commented “he is quite a lazy horse but has some lovely form back along and it is great to see him get his head in front. I think when he sees a fence he will improve again.

“It was very wet out there and is loose ground.”
