Henry de Bromhead completed a quick cross-card double as Gentleman Joe took the concluding Acro Fire & Safety (QR) Race at Listowel.

Hot-on-the-heels of the Waterford stable's success at Kilbeggan through She's A Fine Wine John Gleeson got Gentleman Joe home by half a length on his first start since the Galway Festival.

Understandably in the circumstances he was holding on come the line, containing strong finishing runner-up, Sorrentino (switched right over a furlong out), by a diminishing margin.

"I got a lovely position, we didn't go overly quick and he did that nicely," said Gleeson.

"He had a good blow and it was a great training performance from Henry and the lads at home, as he had been off for ten months and it's nice to get his head in front again.

"He enjoys that good ground, he had a great run at Royal Ascot last year so I'm sure where ever he goes next, he'll give the Achesons and the De Bromheads plenty of fun."

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the home straight involving Sorrentino, ridden by Miss J. Townend, placed second, and Toto Too ridden by Mr A.P. Ryan, placed fifth, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Miss J. Townend stated that there was sufficient room and as she went for the gap Toto Too came in towards her. Mr A.P. Ryan stated that he held his racing line. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action due to the contour of the track.
