Quantum Quest stayed on stoutly to reel in front-runner Another Choice in the Image Furnishings Handicap Hurdle at Roscommon.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding had won his maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan last month and was sporting first time cheekpieces this afternoon.
J J Slevin settled second for most of the three mile trip and asked his mount for an effort going to the third last.
He still had a few lengths to find with Another Choice over the last but the 9/2 shot got on top in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-quarter success.
Stable representative Robbie Power said:- “We’re delighted, it was his first run in a handicap.
“He stepped forward from his maiden and he jumped well today, which was nice to see as he didn’t jump well when he won at Kilbeggan.
“The cheekpieces probably helped as did the strong gallop over three miles, as he’s a dour stayer.
“The race worked out really well, with the pace they went, and JJ timed it to perfection.
“The cheekpieces helped his jumping more so than anything else. It suited him as the pace held up and he had something to aim at the whole way up the straight.
