Having reached the frame in two above average contests on his first two starts over fences, the Henry De Bromhead trained Mossy Fen Park made the most of those experiences to land the Thorn Plant Hire Beginners Chase at Listowel.

A classy hurdler, who finished runner-up in a Grade 2 race at Fairyhouse in March, the former point-to-point winner has always promised to be a better chaser.

Tracking the leaders from the outset, Darragh O'Keeffe moved second on the 11/4 chance after jumping three out.

Travelling well into the straight, Mossy Fen Park headed leader Hitak approaching the last, before staying on strongly to beat Oscars Brother by two-lengths.

Darragh O'Keeffe said: "He is a fine big horse and we have always liked him. I won a maiden hurdle on him in Down Royal and he had two good runs over fences last season. He then had a setback but has strengthen up well since and I'm delighted for him to go and do that.

"He hadn't run for a while so I was happy just to follow away behind the leaders. We wanted to get into a good rhythm and to see how the race panned out in front of us and it worked out well.
