The famous Dawn Run colours were carried to success for the second time this season, as the Henry De Bromhead trained Trubshaw landed the DNG Gold Handicap at the Curragh.
Tracking the leaders under Gabriella Hill, the 11/1 chance led Chopsticks with over six furlongs still to race.
Travelling strongly at the head of affairs over two furlongs out, the three-year-old gelding quickened up impressively inside the final furlong to win readily by three-and-a-half lengths.
“I knew he had freshened up well from his run in Thurles last week,” said Hill.
“He’s a horse that stays so I said I’d let him jump out in front and let him gallop because he’s a bit one paced.
“He stayed on really well to the line. The nice galloping like the Curragh here really suited him today. I tried to look for a bit of fresh ground as much as I could.
“I think he might go hurdling next year and might have a break now for the winter. This was kind of the last race for him.
“My flight was delayed for 40 minutes and I had to do a few things to speed up the journey here, a police escort, but it was worth it in the end. I’m delighted to get the win.
“I’m based with Stuart (Williams) and I’ve been there for seven weeks now. I was suspended when I went over and I was signed on to Henry so it took a while for my licence to be sorted out.
“I’ve had two rides over there. It’s a good yard to be in as he has plenty of handicappers and hopefully I can ride a few more winners.
“He’s a really nice man to work with. He explains everything well and he’s very easy going, nothing is ever an issue. I’m enjoying it so far.”
